Adult Aikido Training
Kimori Dojo SVB offers three dedicated training sessions per week for adult practitioners of all levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner or returning student, our experienced instructors will guide your development.
Schedule
Training is held three times per week:
- Thursday: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
- Saturday: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
- Sunday: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
All classes are 90 minutes and include warm-up, technique instruction, and partner practice.

We provide a welcoming, clean training space dedicated to authentic aikido practice. Visitors are always welcome to observe a class before joining.
What to Bring
- Comfortable clothing: Wear loose-fitting athletic clothes you can move freely in (t-shirt, sweatpants, etc.)
- Aikido gi (uniform): Optional for first few classes - many beginners wear regular workout clothes initially
- Positive attitude: Aikido is a cooperative art; we all learn together

Training Levels
Beginners
New to aikido? Start here! No prior martial arts experience needed. Classes begin with fundamentals and progress at a comfortable pace. Most beginners train 6-12 months before testing for their first rank.
Intermediate
Practitioners with 1-3 years of training. Focus shifts to deeper technique understanding, more complex movements, and increased physical conditioning.
Advanced
4th+ year practitioners and higher ranks. Advanced students assist in instruction and develop teaching skills.
What to Expect
- Arrival: Arrive 10-15 minutes early on your first class
- Warm-up: 10-15 minutes of stretching and conditioning
- Instruction: 45-60 minutes of technique training
- Practice: Partner work applying the techniques
- Cool-down: Gentle stretching and bow-out
Classes are cooperative, not competitive. Everyone practices at their own level.
Rank Advancement
Aikido advancement follows the Aikikai system:
- 6th kyu through 1st kyu (white belts)
- 1st through 3rd dan (black belts)
- 4th+ dan (expert instructors)
Testing opportunities are available quarterly with our head instructor.
First Class Tips
- Arrive early to meet the instructor and ask questions
- Don’t worry about making mistakes - everyone does, and that’s how we learn
- Listen carefully to instructions but don’t stress about perfect execution
- Partner with different people to experience different learning styles
- Take breaks if you need them - aikido is not about exhaustion
- Ask questions - our instructors love helping new students understand
Injuries or Physical Limitations?
Please inform your instructor about any injuries, physical limitations, or health concerns. Aikido can often be adapted to work with your body’s needs. We have practitioners with various backgrounds, ages, and physical abilities.
